ABOUT THE PROJECT

THE CLIENT

VENUS FEST is a Toronto not-for-profit music festival and show series celebrating feminism in the arts.

THE BRIEF

The project was to cover the festival days and create a festival wrap film that would be used both as a press and promotional piece but also to use in grant applications to secure future funding for the festival. The festival needed to look as fun and multifaceted as the organizers intended it while reflecting both the quality of the music and the diversity and inclusive nature of its audience.

RETURNING FOR YEAR TWO

The first VENUS FEST was a single day event in September of 2017 held at an ArtScape venue in Toronto. YEAR TWO was spread out between two venues in the city (The MOD CLUB for night one and OPERA HOUSE for nights two and three). In approaching the second year’s coverage I wanted to capture more of the camaraderie and relationships of the VENUS FEST audience. The festival experience is unlike any others I’ve personally attended and it was important to show was a space where everyone was in agreement in the creation of a safe and enjoyable environment is like. On a technical level, adding in animated elements was a new challenge personally but one I think added some fun to the overall piece.

RETURNING FOR YEAR THREE

YEAR THREE of VENUS FEST takes place September 20-23, 2019.
